..........
I did the lineart more than a year ago, started painting it, and then I got bored and forgot about it
I finished painting it today, it's done 90% with mouse, 10% with pen tablet, and I think I prefer the mouse part... but I won't tell which is which ;]
I'm not too happy about the result, the lineart was a pencil quickie and the girl's head looks too big, but I like the colors
This is an adorable picture, I love it. I do think the watermark over the main image area of her legs there is more than a little tacky though. It seems to be a growing fad on DA as paranoia over "art theft" grows. That fact is though:
1. most "art theft" is a trifling matter which doesn't generate much for the thief and is put to a stop fairly soon when they're found out (I seriously doubt any art thieves have made tons of cash off the artists they steal from).
2. If someone was an art thief of a more professional caliber... they would have no trouble shopping out those watermarks of yours in a mater of minutes!
3. Art is for the enjoyment of the people, and although one might feel upset by the thought of others "stealing" from you via unauthorized or uncredited use... it is far more sensible to just put credits for the piece tucked into a corner and let people's enjoyment of your art trump any paranoia.
It's like the freak out in the music industry with DRM management and copy protections. The people who know how to do pirating still pirate the work... it just ruins it for all the others who have no intention of theft!
you're right, don't think I haven't tought about all that before but friends of mine have seen t-shirts at a shop with their design, and someone told me they saw t-shirts and bags with my drawings in other countries... I know if they really want they can delete the watermark, but it may also discourage them to use the image... anyway, I feel safer if I add it.
on the other hand, I can't control who saves my drawings in their hard disk and uploads them to their own websites, I don't really care about that if it's only because they like the image and want to share it without making any profit, but by adding my URL to the drawing I make sure that at least they know where it was taken from and may visit my gallery
I know the watermark is annoying, I don't like it covering my drawings either, but it's a lot more annoying to see my drawings at someone else's gallery without any kind of credit or link to my site, I know many people may think i'm paranoic or too self centered (I used to think that when I saw watermarks at other people work) but if you like your own art and have seen it stolen so many times, at least it makes you feel a little safer...
I suppose if you feel that strongly about it. For me, even if someone did make shirts or bags with my designs... While I would try to find a way to put a stop to those people making a continued profit off my work... at the same time I would also be kinda' flattered that there are t-shirts and bags out there with something I created on it.
All in all I think my outlook towards things is more humanist and communal in nature. Capital and profit from labors is good to have... but it's never the primary motivation for doing artwork. If someone makes money off my work... it's upsetting, but then again... they are spreading around a creation of mine without any extra effort on my part.
